Worse, the small string on a thong allows the anus and vagina to be connected with each other. The thong as a link will carry bacteria from the rectum straight to your vagina. Bacteria such as group B Streptococcal disease and E.coli can be passed into both the anus and vagina.

Former top model, Elle Macpherson, was reported in the media to have said:

"Thongs are not only uncomfortable but unsanitary and dangerous. Women who persist in wearing them are risking infection and infertility."

Tips on Thongs:

Do not wear your thongs 24 hours each day. Make sure your thongs are not super-tight. Do not wear thongs made of spandex, lycra and nylon. Wear only thongs made of cotton. Do not sleep in thongs or other tight panties overnight. There is still movement during your sleep and this can agitate areas of the vagina and the anus in women.
